Job description

Overview

Our Douglas-based Client is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join a busy, established team of audit and CSP professionals.

Role purpose: to execute delegated work to a high professional standard in an attempt to enhance productivity and efficiency to ensure client satisfaction and to optimise personal development, and progress to manager duties.

Role Profile

Service to clients

  • Ensure that delegated work is completed to a high professional standard, a standard greater than which the client expects
  • Complete the work effectively and efficiently within the budget agreed in advance with the manager concerned and to assist in planning assignments as required
  • Delegate work to junior members of staff wherever appropriate and supervise and review their work
  • Ensure the appropriate audit and accounts preparation documentation is completed to a high standard
  • Develop an understanding of the client's affairs and an appreciation of the economic and commercial climate in which they operate
  • Provide feedback to managers of all client developments/opportunities of which you become aware
  • Report any possible further services / growth opportunities
  • Take responsibility for current clients and become their main point of contact as field manager of the engagement

Maintaining professional and technical standards

  • Adhere to the firm's and Institute's or Association's professional standards and to be aware of developments or pronouncements from the Financial Reporting Council, ICAEW or similar regulatory and professional bodies
  • Read the technical updates and bulletins circulated from the relevant professional bodies and obtain relevant background information
  • Apply technical and personal skills covered on training courses to assignments
  • Develop and improve professional, managerial and technical skills
  • Consider the audit approach to assignments and ensure the most cost effective route adopted
  • Monitor work in progress
  • Review the level of non-chargeable time and keep to a minimum
  • Liaise with the audit manager in relation to holiday requirements and be aware of staff planning, informing relevant managers of any problems with planning

Portfolio management

  • Effectively manage a small portfolio of clients and take responsibility for timetabling, budgeting and billing of them
  • Ensure the agreed timetable and deadlines are met and keep the client updated throughout the engagement for all clients
  • Where there are other members of the engagement team, ensure they are briefed and supported through the engagement
  • As directed by the manager, assist with the management aspects of the wider portfolio

Staff development

  • Brief more junior staff and ensure completion of delegated work is to a satisfactory standard
  • Ensure that junior staff receive adequate, on the job training
  • Review and assess the work of junior staff and report on strengths and weaknesses to the staff director when requested to do so
  • Monitor work in progress levels of more junior staff
  • Ensure that junior members of staff are given the opportunity to work on all sections of the audit file and on more complex accounts jobs, under supervision, in order to develop their skills

Developing personal and professional skills

  • Be prepared to get actively and enthusiastically involved in office activities
  • Assist in the provision of a good working atmosphere
  • Complete self appraisal and discuss with staff director as required
  • Ensure regular and appropriate training courses are attended and the CPD requirements met
  • Be prepared to accept more responsibility, and work on a wide range of clientele
  • Identify areas of weaknesses and find and attend courses to improve technical areas
  • Attend the appropriate training courses with commitment and enthusiasm and ensure that all work is submitted according to the laid down timetable
  • Ensure desk and working area is kept clear and tidy at all times
  • Be willing to take opportunities to assist in different departments in the firm
Promote the firms' image and services both externally and internally
  • Provide contacts and friends with copies of appropriate company publications
  • Attend marketing events organised by the company as required
  • Keep an up to date awareness on services provided by the firm
  • Mention new services to clients, as appropriate
  • Strive to supply a service at a standard which exceeds the clients' expectations

Person Profile

  • A fully qualified (ACA/ACCA/ACMA) Accounting professional
  • Minimum of 3 years PQE
  • Minimum of 3 years audit experience, including audit management & leading a team through the audit process
