Job description

Overview

Our well known Client are a large local employer, providing a range of services to the island's business and domestic marketplace. As part of planned growth within their team, they now require an experienced Data Protection / Information Officer.

Reporting to the Board Secretary & Policy Manager, the Data Protection Officer will be responsible for:

  • The development of information and document management systems to promote efficiency and electronic governance of all information
  • To inform and advise the business on obligations in relation to processing including subject rights, records of processing activities, security of processing and notification and communication of breaches
  • Guiding the business through compliance with the requirements of General Data Protection Regulations and Freedom of Information legislation, with active participation in various policy councils/committees
  • Raising awareness and engendering compliance through cultural change, and staff training
  • The assistance with coordination of Freedom of Information, Access to Government Information and Data Access requests
  • Management of the relationship with the Public Records Office (PRO), and file submission and retrieval from the PRO including the development of future methodologies for archiving
  • Occasional briefings to the Executive Team and Board

The ideal candidate for the role of Data Protection Officer here will have:

  • Expert understanding of records administration
  • Expert understanding of the Freedom of Information Act
  • Expert knowledge of data protection law and practice
  • In depth understanding of the General Data Protection Regulations
  • Excellent computer skills and experience of a broad range of IT applications
  • Ability to generate enthusiasm and commitment in others and demonstrate your own approach whilst remaining calm under pressure and in control when under stress
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and persuasive way
  • Flexibility in re-thinking your approach to persuading others
  • Experience of delivering an excellent service to internal and external customers, whilst proactively seeking ways to maintain and improve high standards of service
  • Project/time management skills with a high level of self-discipline and personal organisation
