Job description


Our leading Douglas-based Client is seeking a Trainee within their Credit risk Team, to join and be developed within a rewarding, challenging career.

Role Profile


  • Support with ensuring the Group operates within an appropriate and agreed risk management framework
  • Support with writing accurate, clear and concise reports, including the ORSA (see below)
  • Work closely with Line 1, particularly Finance and Actuarial
  • Support with the annual review process for Risk Policies with the relevant stakeholders
  • Ensuring risk management framework remains fit for purpose and is sufficiently and proportionately embedded across the Group


  • Supporting the operation of the governance framework to determine and manage our capital needs
  • Support with drafting the annual ORSA Report
  • Working closely with Corporate Office to ensure strategic priorities are informed by both capital needs and risk profile / assessments
Team and Culture
  • Take personal responsibility for passing exams and meeting the requirements set out in your training contract
  • Take personal responsibility for agreeing clear objectives that reflect and support the delivery of the business plan
  • Take personal responsibility for the identification and implementation of a personal development plan of training needs
  • Proactively monitor and manage own performance through regular reviews / appraisals with Line Manager
  • Personally support the Group Risk Director and line manager to implement the Group-wide Risk Target Operating Model
  • Flexibility and support other members of the team as required - lives and breathes, believes in and supports team culture, displays behaviours and values
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the company's core values
  • Demonstrate a full understanding of the fair treatment of customers and be risk aware

Person Profile

  • Part qualified ACA Chartered Accountant, who wishes to complete their qualification by gaining practical experience in Financial Services
  • Keen learner, enjoys new challenges, embraces change, flexible support to the wider team and business
  • Reliable, delivers on commitments and upholds standards and principles
  • A self-starter with an inquiring and investigative mind with a desire to want to understand the processes, controls and implications of process and control failures on the business
  • Able to build good working relationships with all levels of the business
  • Good organisational and planning skills including taking responsibility for managing workloads and meeting deadlines
  • Must be able to work as part of a team
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, combined with a logical approach and high attention to detail. Ability to convey information in a clear, structured and understandable manner
  • Good numerical skills with an ability to analyse large amounts of complex financial and risk data and present in a clear and concise format
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft software including: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrates a 'can do' approach, enthusiasm and initiative
  • Flexibility in approach to work, adapting to changing demands and conditions and where required, displaying appropriate discretion and confidentiality


  • Prior experience of the insurance industry would be an advantage
