Job description
Overview
We are currently seeking a Senior Manager - Policy and Risk for our Douglas-based Client, a leader in fiduciary services, fund administration, and management and investment advice compliance.
The primary responsibilities of the Senior Manager are to support the Head of Policy & Risk with the leadership and management of the Division, ensuring the completion of all deliverables and the smooth running of the Division in an effective and efficient manner. Wider duties will include:
- Providing effective leadership and business management within the organisation, including managing staff effectively and ensuring efficient use of resources
- Driving a culture of continuous improvement and development throughout the division, using personal development plans, clear objectives and regular one-to-ones
- Ensuring internal systems, policies and procedures are maintained and followed
- Assisting the Head of Policy & Risk to identify, assess and manage divisional and organisational risks
- Setting an example to staff by cultivating a positive professional culture and promoting a team spirit and flexible approach in line with the organisation's core values
- Deputising for the Head of Policy and Risk where required
- Contributing actively to strategy setting, risk horizon scanning and to a positive culture of the organisation
- Embracing and supporting a risk-based approach across the organisation, including ongoing triage of work efforts and resources to achieve completion of highest priorities
- Actively support and adopt changes organisation-wide and within the division, in the continued drive for improvements and automation
- Collaborating with staff to achieve efficient and effective implementation of strategic priorities and divisional work plans
- Supporting the rollout of a focused and comprehensive performance management approach, including holding staff accountable for set targets, utilising performance improvement plans where appropriate, actively implementing and overseeing staff development and training plans
- Suggesting and implementing the wider use of metrics/divisional plans to provide improved quantitative KPIs to manage the division / enterprise wide to support reporting to the Head of Policy and Risk and other internal and external stakeholders
The Ideal candidate for the role of Senior Manager will:
- Hold a professional qualification relevant to the financial services sector OR: hold a professional qualification relevant to risk management, internal controls or audit
- Hold a relevant management qualification (ILM Level 5 or equivalent)
- Extensive experience interpreting and/or developing policy frameworks and formulating solutions by way of legislation, policies, procedures and guidance. OR: extensive experience working within a risk or controls function within a regulated financial services entity, a professional services firm or public services organisation
- Proven experience in a leadership/management role with the ability to work in a collaborative style
- Extensive working knowledge of the financial services sector and associated legislation, along with an understanding of trends and developments. OR: extensive working knowledge of enterprise risk management, with a strong understanding of risk analysis, risk frameworks and internal controls
- Strong people management, coaching and leadership skills including the ability to manage people to deliver both the divisional and organisation's objectives
- Proven ability to build and maintain working relationships with stakeholders at all levels including the ability to influence and negotiate
- Strong analytical skills, ability to quickly and accurately assimilate information, to consider any associated risks and to summarise the information effectively
- Ability to work under pressure, manage/oversee individual and team workloads of varied complexity to manage competing priorities and to deliver against deadlines
- Ability to prepare, lead and conduct meetings with senior stakeholders both internally and externally, including dealing with difficult/contentious issues and having the ability to challenge on these
- Demonstrate highly effective interpersonal, spoken and written communication skills
- Demonstrate strategic thinking, the ability to plan, work and make decisions accordingly
