Job description


Our Financial Services Client in Douglas is enjoying tremendous growth and have ahead of them an exciting technology portfolio. To support these endeavours, they require an additional Software Tester to join the System Development team.

Systems Development aims to develop and maintain IT systems that empower the business to realise its ambitions in a secure, robust, accurate, efficient and cost effective manner. The purpose of testing is to ensure that new and amended systems, configurations, packages, or services, together with any interfaces, perform as specified (including security requirements), and that the risks associated with deployment are adequately understood and documented. The System tester plays an essential role in managing the risks associated with IT systems, which include financial and reputational risk.

Role Profile

  • The planning, design, management, execution and reporting of tests, using appropriate testing tools and techniques and conforming to agreed process standards and industry specific regulations
  • Engineering, using and maintaining test ware (test cases, test scripts, test reports, test plans, etc.) to measure and improve the quality of the software being tested
  • Defines test conditions for given requirements
  • Designs test cases and creates test scripts and supporting data, working to the specifications provided
  • Interprets, executes and records test cases in accordance with project test plans
  • Analyses and reports test activities and results. Identifies and reports issues and risks
  • Uses established techniques as directed to identify potential problems and specify acceptance criteria in clear and precise terms in order to ensure protection from identified system weaknesses
  • Assists in more complex requirements activities and ensures that testing is adequately planned for and is appropriate
  • Assists in requirement specification and solutions design to ensure that requirements are clear and that proposed solutions satisfy those requirements

Person Profile

  • Minimum of 1 years' experience in a software testing role
  • Educated to a bachelor degree level or holds a relevant professional qualification (such as ISTQB) or extensive relevant experience in career history
  • Experience of defining requirements and communicating those requirements to others
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Analytical Thinking: Acquiring a proper understanding of a problem or situation by breaking it down systematically into its component parts
  • Planning and organisation abilities to determine a course of action by breaking it down into smaller steps and by planning and resourcing each of these
  • Good problem solving skills in order to resolve issues quickly and effectively
  • Proven ability to meet individual targets and goals with accurate results
  • Decision maker who can make decisions at the appropriate time, taking into account the needs of the situation, priorities, constraints, known risks, and the availability of necessary information and resources
  • Teamwork to work collaboratively (rather than competitively) with others to achieve a common goal
