Job description

Overview

Our Client is a Douglas-based Financial Services firm, with a growing portfolio amid a significant transformation program following recent corporate acquisitions. As the team grows, they now require a Trainee Database Administrator.

You will be an important member of the Data Services team, responsible for managing the organisation's SQL Server databases, working closely with the Senior DBA team and other technical teams to learn and develop skills in database administration.

Role Profile

Database Design:

  • Design and implement SQL server instances and physical databases in line with business applications needs. Assesses proposed changes which impact data storage and usage requirements, ensuring database infrastructure is appropriately updated to accommodate changes without loss of performance or data integrity

Database Administration:

  • Monitor database performance and activity and proactively identify and investigate problems and issues. Recommend solutions and implement database changes designed to address performance issues. Perform routine configuration, installation, and reconfiguration of database and related products. Automate regular database activity such as backups and test environment provision

Person Profile

  • Hold or studying toward a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Database administration related knowledge (preferably with SQL Server technologies)
  • Programming language knowledge
  • Some exposure to SQL Server database administration, such as through academic projects, internships, or other relevant work experience
  • Basic understanding of database concepts and fundamentals

Desirable:

  • Qualifications relevant to role or previous experience, such as IT Professional Qualifications
