Overview

Our Client are a leading Utilities business with a dedicated team delivering safe, reliable and economic multi-utility supplies and services (electricity, clean water, waste water collection and treatment, natural gas transmission and telecoms). They are now seeking an Overhead Linesperson to join an established team.

Reporting to the Overhead Lines Supervisor, the Overhead Linesperson will primary be concerned in the construction, installation and maintenance of Electricity Sub-Stations, overhead lines and associated services. Responsibilities will include:

• Carry out all work in conjunction with the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead lines and any associated plant and equipment, connections and earthing
• Patrol overhead lines and report defects and any work being performed in the vicinity of the line route
• Carry out work on live LV apparatus, conductors or equipment as required
• Carry out work on overhead lines up to and including HV
• Erect, examine, maintain and repair substation overhead bus-bars and connections
• Remove and replace links and fuses as required
• Maintain and use test equipment, meters and instruments and records the readings
• Undertake cable terminations and joints
• Erect and inspect pre-formed scaffolds
• Drive vehicles, carry out the daily maintenance tasks and routine roadworthiness checks specified for the vehicle and report any defects
• Operate communications / data transmission equipment
• Switch, Isolate and Earth on the LV and HV network
• Undertake / assist with fault finding investigations on the network
• Maintain / complete accurate network records as required
• Assess risks and take necessary precautions prior to setting self and / or others to work
• Adhere to all relevant procedures, instructions, standards and guidance
• Undertake training as required and assist with training and coaching of others
• Connect, disconnect, remove, re-site & test installations as necessary
• Plant and machinery operator, carry out tree felling and tree trimming
• Undertake cable laying, including excavations, backfill and reinstatement
• Provide supervision of external contractors and assist in resistance, thermal and height measurements on overhead lines
• Inspect, maintain and repair boundary and security fencing, clean and tidy outdoor substations and carry out associated gardening duties
• Joints and connects cables up to 1000V on overhead network

The ideal candidate for the role of Overhead Linesperson have:

• 5 GCSE's at grade C or above to include mathematics and physics/science
• BTEC Level 3 in Engineering
• Hold a full, clean driving licence
• Demonstrable interest in engineering
• Basic electrical experience
• Basic construction experience
• A high level of physical fitness
• Enthusiasm and motivation
• A willingness to undertake training
• A flexible approach to work within a team environment
• Ability to communicate well in a demanding environment and have a strong commitment to Health and Safety
